Boston's Pablo Sandoval could need shoulder surgery
Boston Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval has "a lot going on" with his left shoulder, and he could require surgery, president Dave Dombrowski said Friday.
The comments come shortly after word got out Sandoval will seek a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews. It's unclear how Sandoval was initially injured or the specifics of the ailment, but it's obvious at this point it's something which could keep him on the shelf for a long time.
Sandoval had a disastrous first season in Boston, slashing .245/.292/.366 with just a .288 wOBA in 126 games last year. His -2.0 Wins Above Replacement ranked dead last. He has yet to get a hit in six plate appearances this season, striking out four times.
