Dr. Andrews to examine Boston's Pablo Sandoval

Boston Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval (shoulder) will receive a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

What It Means:

There's been some speculation that Sandoval isn't really hurt and the Red Sox made up a phantom injury in order to get him off the roster, but this news suggests he's indeed hurt. More will be known about the third baseman's timetable for a return after he's looked at by Andrews.

Sandoval had a disastrous first season in Boston, slashing .245/.292/.366 with just a .288 wOBA in 126 games last year. His -2.0 Wins Above Replacement ranked dead last. He has yet to get a hit in six plate appearances this season, striking out four times.
