Jared Allen signs a one-day deal to retire as a Viking

The Minnesota Vikings signed defensive end Jared Allen to a one-day contract so he can retire as a Viking.

What It Means:

Allen played for four teams in his career, including the Carolina Panthers last season, but his most successful years came with the Vikings from 2008 to 2013. Three of his four First-Team All-Pro honors were earned in Minnesota, and he recorded 22 sacks in 2011. Tied for ninth on the all-time sack list with 136 over his 12-year career, Allen's next stop is likely Canton.

Allen recorded two sacks with the Carolina Panthers this past season, playing a rotational role on a defense which ended 2015 ranked second in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points per play. In his 12-year career, Allen only missed five games, playing in every contest in his six years with Minnesota.
