Phillies' Darin Ruf out Tuesday due to sore shoulder
Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Darin Ruf is out of the starting lineup Tuesday against the San Diego Padres because of a sore left shoulder.
San Diego is throwing left-hander Robbie Erlin, and Ruf is expected to start against most left-handers this year. Instead, left-handed hitter Ryan Howard will get the nod at first base and bat fourth for the host Phils.
Ruf struggled at the plate last season, slashing .235/.300/.414 with a .311 wOBA. He did hit 12 home runs in just 297 plate appearances, however. We project Ruf to post a .307 wOBA with 9 home runs in 259 plate appearances this season.
