Shawn Tolleson implodes in Rangers loss to Seattle
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Shawn Tolleson fell apart Wednesday in a loss to the Seattle Mariners, allowing five hits and five earned runs without recording an out.
Tolleson entered the game with a one-run lead in the ninth inning but that vanished quickly. The lead was already gone by the time Robinson Cano went deep to end his outing. Tolleson was among the league leaders in saves last season but he did it with a somewhat unconvincing 2.99 ERA. One meltdown won’t cost him his job but a few cleaning outings would go a long way toward securing his role in the ninth inning.
We project Tolleson to post a 25.4 percent strikeout rate with a 7.0 percent walk rate in 2016 with 69 strikeouts and 31 saves in 68 2/3 frames.
