Jake McGee officially the Rockies' closer
Pitcher, Jake McGee has been named the Colorado Rockies' closer.
The Rockies acquired McGee this offseason, and he has pitched well this spring with an ERA of 2.45 in eight appearances. Jason Motte's injury likely forced manager Walt Weiss's hand, but McGee should be a solid saves contributor for the Rockies in 2016.
McGee pitched just 37 1/3 innings last season but had a solid 2.91 xFIP, just slightly worse than his career total of 2.88. His 32.7 strikeout percentage was significantly higher the league average of 20.4 percent, and it's no fluke -- he owns a 30.8 strikeout percentage for his career.
