Steven Wright expected to be Boston's fifth starter

Boston Red Sox pitcher Steven Wright is expected to begin the year in the starting rotation, according to Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe.

What It Means:

Eduardo Rodriguez will start the year on the disabled list, so once he is back, Wright will likely go back to the bullpen. Roenis Elias and Henry Owens were also competing for the fifth starter spot, but Wright has reportedly looked the best out of the possible fill-in options.

Wright had 16 appearances last season and posted a SIERA of 4.60. The knuckleballer's Strikeout Rate was 16.8 percent, and he had an xFIP of 4.85. We project Wright to have an ERA of 4.62 in 2016 with 60 innings pitched and 43 strikeouts.
