Tigers' Daniel Norris diagnosed with lower back tightness
Detroit Tigers pitcher Daniel Norris left Tuesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays with lower back tightness.
Norris retired just one of six batters before getting the hook on Tuesday. He was scratched from Saturday's start with essentially the same injury and will probably open the year on the disabled list. The 22-year-old has huge potential but hasn't put it all together yet. He owns a 9.95 ERA across 4 outings this spring. Buck Farmer, Matt Boyd, and Shane Greene are all candidates to take Norris' place in the starting rotation.
Norris posted a 4.63 xFIP in 60 innings pitched (13 starts) last season for the Blue Jays and Tigers. His 17.9 strikeout percentage was below the league average of 20.4 percent. We currently project Norris to record a 4.44 ERA and a 19.0 strikeout percentage across 123 innings in 2016.
