Yankees' Gerrit Cole tests positive for COVID-19, scratched Tuesday
New York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole tested positive for COVID-19.
Cole will not make his scheduled start on Tuesday versus the Baltimore Orioles. The Yankees recalled right-hander Luis Gil from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding roster, but manager Aaron Boone stated that left-hander Nestor Cortes is likely going to replace Cole on the hill Tuesday.
Cole is averaging 42.8 FanDuel points per game this season and he leads the majors with 176 strikeouts. The right-hander's 34.4 percent strikeout rate ranks in the top six percent among qualified pitchers this season.
