Wander Franco finding seat Monday for Tampa Bay

Tampa Bay Rays infielder Wander Franco is not in the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against right-hander Chris Flexen and the Seattle Mariners.

What It Means:

Franco appears to be getting a routine breather after he recorded his third straight multi-hit game on Sunday. The 20-year-old rookie has raised his batting average from .200 to .250 since July 21. Joey Wendle is replacing Franco at shortstop on Monday and hitting fifth. Yandy Diaz is hitting cleanup and Ji-Man Choi is batting third.

numberFire’s models project Wendle for 10.6 FanDuel points and he has a $2,500 salary on Monday. Per our MLB Heat Map, the Rays have an implied total of 5.2 runs. Flexen's strikeout rate this season (15.5 percent) ranks in the bottom four percent of the league, but his walk rate (4.9 percent) is in the 92nd percentile.
