Shawn Tolleson (back) throws bullpen session for Texas

Texas Ranger relief pitcher Shawn Tolleson (back) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Thursday.

What It Means:

It's the first time Tolleson has thrown from the bump since he went down with lower-back spasms a week ago. When the closer will be cleared for Cactus League action remains to be seen, but he should still have plenty of time to get ready for Opening Day.

Tolleson posted a 3.31 xFIP in 72 1/3 innings this past season. His 25.5 strikeout percentage was well above the league average of 20.4 percent, and he was efficient at limiting his walks, allowing just 17 free passes. Tolleson was worth 1.1 Wins Above Replacement. We project him to post a 25.4 strikeout rate with a 7 percent walk rate in 2016 with 69 strikeouts in 68 2/3 frames.
