Rafael Soriano inks minors deal with Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays signed reliever Rafael Soriano to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

What It Means:

His 2015 campaign ended with a shoulder issue, and he was eventually released by the Chicago Cubs in September. Now 36, Soriano isn't a great bet to ever see high-leverage innings again. However, he was quite good just two years ago and is certainly worth a shot on a non-guaranteed deal.

Soriano made just six appearances with the Cubs last season, getting knocked around for four runs on eight hits -- including two homers -- over 5 2/3 innings. That amounted to an awful 6.85 FIP.
