Drew Stubbs stays with Rangers on minors contract

The Texas Rangers re-signed outfielder Drew Stubbs to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

What It Means:

The Rangers were in need of some outfield depth with Josh Hamilton (knee) slated to begin the season on the disabled list, and they wound up bringing someone back who finished last year with them. Stubbs slashed just .195/.283/.382 last season for the Colorado Rockies and Rangers, but he's hit lefties well for his career (.276/.350/.454) and is capable of playing all three outfield spots.

Stubbs had just 140 plate appearances last season and did not do much with them. His wOBA was just .289, and his strikeout percentage was a staggeringly high 42.9. He still showed decent pop -- his Isolated Power was .187 -- but Stubbs is a platoon player, at best, for 2016.
