Astros' Evan Gattis (sports hernia) ready for light activity
Houston Astros designated hitter Evan Gattis (hernia surgery) indicated he will begin taking part in light baseball activity.
Gattis will be sidelined for the next four to six weeks after having recently undergone surgery to repair the hernia. The 29-year-old slugger said he will "start doing very light baseball activities shortly as long as pain permits." He's walking one mile a day right now and deemed himself sore but optimistic. On his current timetable, he will likely miss a portion of spring training and possibly the start of the season outright.
A year ago, Gattis batted .246/.285/.463 with a .317 wOBA, 27 homers and 88 RBI in his first season with the Astros.
