Diamondbacks making progress with Tyler Clippard

The Arizona Diamondbacks have made progress toward an agreement with free agent reliever Tyler Clippard, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

What It Means:

Diamondbacks general manager Dave Stewart acknowledged last week Clippard would be a good fit for the club, and now it appears he is close to getting his man. Clippard boasts a 2.88 ERA in 562 career major league frames.

The 30-year-old right-hander experienced some struggles down the stretch in 2015, but he still finished with a decent 2.92 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 71 total innings between the Oakland Athletics and New York Mets.
