Padres: Juan Lagares elects free agency
The San Diego Padres announced outfielder Juan Lagares has opted for free agency.
The move likely indicates that 24-year-old prospect Edward Olivares will make the Opening Day roster. Lagares agreed to a minor-league contract with the Padres in February after slashing .213/.279/.326 with 5 home runs, 27 RBI, 38 runs scored, and 4 steals over 285 plate appearances for the New York Mets in 2019.
Per FanDuel Sportsbook, the Padres have the 11th-lowest odds (+4600) to win the 2020 World Series.
