Reds' Mike Moustakas dropped 12-15 pounds

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Mike Moustakas estimates that he lost 12-15 pounds during quarantine.

What It Means:

Moustakas wanted to lose some weight to better prepare for his transition to second base. “That was one of the benefits that I saw during quarantine was being able to hang out with my kids and get my body into better shape, I'd say, to play second base,” he said. “Being over there in the middle of the infield, I'm a little bit bigger of a guy, so any extra steps I can get, I feel, would be a huge advantage for me." The Reds signed Moustakas to a four-year, $64 million free agent contract this winter with the intention of moving the three-time All-Star third baseman from the hot corner to second. He logged 47 appearances at second base for the Milwaukee Brewers last season. It was the first time he ever played there since being drafted back in 2007. Moustakas tallied 35 homers with 87 RBI last year and he's hit at least .250 each of the past three seasons.

numberFire's models expect Moustakas to record a .254 batting average and .827 OPS with 13 homers, 36 RBI, and 32 runs scored over 227 plate appearances this season.
