Brandon Morrow released by Cubs
The Chicago Cubs have released pitcher Brandon Morrow, according to MLB Insider Robert Murray.
Morrow has dealt with a number of injuries since resigning with the Cubs last December, most notably an elbow injury that forced him to miss the entire 2019 season and a calf tear that prevented him from throwing during the weeks leading up to the shutdown in March. Morrow reportedly underwent a minor nerve procedure and will require some time to be ready for the upcoming 60-game season, but he does intend to pitch next year.
In his one active season with the Cubs in 2018, Morrow made 35 appearances, recording 22 saves, a 1.47 ERA, and 31 strikeouts.
