Pirates' Socrates Brito tests positive for COVID-19

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Socrates Brito has tested positive for COVID-19, the team announced Sunday.

What It Means:

Manager Derek Shelton broke the news to reporters Sunday afternoon. Brito was signed to a minor league contract in the offseason, though he has been placed in the 60-man player pool and was expected to potentially be a factor for the big-league club. While that's still a possibility, Brito will be behind the 8-ball in that he'll be quarantined for a minimum of 14 days and be required to pass two separate tests before he's allowed to rejoin the club. Relief pitcher Blake Cederlind, who has never appeared in an MLB game but was placed in the player pool for relief depth, has also tested positive.

In 17 games last season with the Toronto Blue Jays, Brito hit for a .077 batting average with a .291 OPS, 5 runs and 2 RBI.
