Phillippe Aumont

Phil Aumont turns in glove for tractor

Pitcher Phil Aumont, who spent spring training in camp with the Toronto Blue Jays, has retired.

What It Means:

Aumont has decided to take up farming instead. "There's a meaning to it," Aumont replied when asked about the professional change-up. "I want to touch nature. I want to learn about animals, and growing vegetables and fruit crops. Just the endless possibilities for me on a farm are priceless. Baseball has been great. Baseball gave me an opportunity to do a lot of things in life, and I'm very thankful. But when the pandemic hit you saw what it caused in our cities. I just felt a need to start something, to just go back to nature and get away from negative stuff." Aumont last pitched in the majors in 2015. He's only 31, so an eventual return to the majors is plausible.

Aumont retires with a 6.80 ERA and 1.99 WHIP with 42 strikeouts and 34 walks across 43 2/3 innings (46 games).
