Ty France mentioned as Padres' potential DH

San Diego Padres infielder Ty France is a candidate to play designated hitter this season, per general manager A.J. Preller and clubhouse manager Jayce Tingler.

What It Means:

Josh Naylor is also in the running for the newly-implemented DH spot. Preller and Tingler also indicated they may play matchups instead of sticking with one primary DH. France underwhelmed at the plate as a rookie, but he did showcase his versatility by logging appearances at three different infield positions.

France hit .234/.294/.402 with 7 homers and 24 RBI in 201 plate appearances last year in his first season in the majors. It was disappointing after he slashed .399/.477/.770 with 27 home runs and 89 RBI at the Triple-A level last season. He recorded a .168 ISO with a 24.4 strikeout percentage and 4.5 walk percentage as a rookie.
