Angels' Griffin Canning lands on IL with elbow inflammation
The Los Angeles Angels placed starting pitcher Griffin Canning on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to August 1, with right elbow inflammation.
Canning either suffered the injury during his last start or during his between-starts bullpen session. The UCL is intact, meaning Tommy John surgery won't be necessary, but the Angels figure to err on the side of caution with their rookie right-hander.
Canning owns a 4.76 ERA and 1.20 WHIP with 86 strikeouts and 26 walks over 79 1/3 innings (16 games) this season.
