Tigers close to deal with Mike Pelfrey

The Detroit Tigers will have a deal in place with starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey soon, CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports.

What It Means:

Joel Sherman of the New York Post hears that it's a two-year, $16 million contract. Pelfrey figures to hold down the fifth spot in the Tigers rotation after they got their ace-level pitcher in Jordan Zimmermann.

Over 164 2/3 innings for the Minnesota Twins this past season, Pelfrey posted a 4.26 ERA, 4.00 FIP, 1.48 WHIP and 4.76 strikeouts-per-nine to 2.46 walks-per-nine. He generated 2.0 Wins Above Replacement for the Twins in 2015.
