Ben Zobrist

Ben Zobrist's asking price at four years, $60M

Kansas City Royals second baseman/left fielder Ben Zobrist's price tag "stands at four years, $60 million and may go higher", Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports.

What It Means:

Higher demand leads to higher cost and that's what's happening for Ben Zobrist, despite turning 35 next May. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported that he's the New York Mets' "number one target." SB Nation's Chris Cotillo has reported that Zobrist has at least one West Coast and one East Coast club on his itinerary, as he is due to meet with interested clubs next week.

Zobrist had a solid .349 wOBA this past season -- which ranked 42nd overall -- between time with the Oakland Athletics and the Kansas City Royals. His 1.17 nERD was 64th overall, and he was one of five players to record more walks than strikeouts this season. With Zobrist drawing so much interest, it could come down to who offers him the most years and/or money.
