Tommy Hunter

Indians, Tigers, Padres interested in free agent Tommy Hunter

The Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers and San Diego Padres are among the teams showing interest in free agent pitcher Tommy Hunter, according to Rich Dubroff of CSNMidAtlantic.com.

What It Means:

The interested teams are likely viewing Hunter as a low-risk, potentially-high-reward signing, who can help out in their bullpen. He's looking at receiving a one- or two-year deal.

Hunter pitched 60.1 innings of relief this season for the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Cubs, posting a 3.89 xFIP. He didn't give away many free bases, however, walking just 14 batters. Despite making 75 career starts in the majors, Hunter only pitched more than one inning of relief this season 14 times, and none with the Cubs. He's only posted one season with an fWAR of 1.0 or greater, and that came in 2009 as a starter with the Texas Rangers.
