Nolan Arenado is playing at Coors Field tonight where the Colorado Rockies have an ungodly implied total of 6.75 runs, and Josh Donaldson is still the day’s most expensive hitter.

That’s how good he’s been this season, especially since the calendar flipped to June 1. Donaldson put up a .489 wOBA with a 43.0% hard-hit rate last month, and he boasts a .557 wOBA with a 47.6 hard-hit rate through the first part of July.

That's good.

Donaldson and the Jays have an implied total of 4.83 runs for their home tilt with Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers. Verlander is having a solid season -- 3.72 SIERA and 25.5% whiff rate -- but his strikeout rate dipped to 22.4% in June. For the year, Donaldson boasts a .442 wOBA at the Rogers Centre, which ranks 7th in home run factor.

Because of Arenado’s pristine matchup and situation, he will likely be the highest owned third baseman today, which could make Donaldson something of a contrarian play -- as much as rostering one of the game’s elite hitters could be called contrarian.
