Being $1,000 cheaper than Kershaw, we can roster Madison Bumgarner tonight, who has the same Vegas moneyline as Kershaw (-180). While MadBum hasn’t been nearly as dominant as Kershaw this season, he’s been excellent in the strikeout department with a career-high 10.24 strikeouts per nine innings (K/9).

He’s struck out six-plus batters in all but two starts this season and has limited damage very well, allowing two earned runs or fewer in 12 of his 14 starts.

He’s in line to rack up even more strikeouts tonight, as the Pittsburgh Pirates have the third-worst strikeout rate versus left-handed pitching at 24.8 percent.

The one thing that hinders Bumgarner more than most elite pitchers, though, is his fly-ball rate. At 39.1 percent, it’s the same as his ground-ball rate and has resulted in a few home runs this season. Fortunately, the Pirates are just 22nd in the league against left-handed pitching with 18 home runs this season.

If you can’t fit Kershaw in your lineup tonight, Bumgarner is the next best option.
