Matt Carpenter, 2B, St. Louis Cardinals

FanDuel Price: $4,300

Why He Will Go Overlooked:

While Matt Carpenter left possibly the most loaded position in baseball, second base has plenty of appealing options, too. To name a few, Jose Altuve, Daniel Murphy, Ian Kinsler, and DJ LeMahieu should all be pretty popular options. Among all of these options, don't expect daily fantasy players to pay a premium for Carpenter in an intimidating on-paper matchup against Gerrit Cole, especially when Vegas has St. Louis only projected for 3.7 runs.

Why You Should Use Him:

Carpenter has really been hot recently, hitting safely in eight of his past nine games and averaging 18.3 FanDuel points.

He will look to stay hot in tonight's matchup against Cole. Cole hasn't looked like himself at all this season, and while his 2.85 ERA might not show it, his 4.27 SIERA clearly indicates that he hasn't been nearly as effective this season. He's been very hittable recently, allowing 32 hits in 25 innings over his past four games. It seems unlikely that he can keep avoiding a true implosion with the way he has been pitching, and his good luck could run out in tonight's matchup against the Cardinals.

If any particular Cardinals hitter is going to be successful against Cole, it would be the red-hot Carpenter. Aside from having an appealing lefty-righty matchup, Carpenter has excelled in previous meetings with Cole, posting a .375 batting average with 3 homers in 24 career at-bats.
