Kolten Wong, 2B, St. Louis Cardinals

Price: $2,300

On Thursday, Kolten Wong got off to a decent start to 2019, going yard twice, but obviously a one-game sample doesn't mean a whole lot.

What he does have going for him is a track record of some decent numbers against right-handed pitching. In 2018 that included a .328 wOBA and .159 ISO, and in 2017 he posted a .343 wOBA with a .142 ISO. For only $300 above the minimum, that's some reasonable production.

He's not up against the scariest righty tonight either, in Freddy Peralta. Peralta did post an excellent 3.99 SIERA in his first big league season, but that didn't come without room for concern. He showed some struggles with consistency, posting a 12.5% walk rate, and he also allowed opposing bats a 41.4% hard-hit rate and 52.0% fly-ball rate. His numbers benefited in a big way from a low .237 batting average on balls in play (BABIP), which is so low that, especially over only a 78-inning sample, it is incredibly unlikely to be sustainable.

He didn't benefit from a low BABIP against left-handed bats (.333), and that resulted in a 4.86 xFIP and .374 wOBA on a 46.0% hard-hit rate. Almost anything will be a step back from what Wong did on Opening Day, but at $2,300 in such a great matchup, a step down from that can still mean serious value.
