While many people's favorite memory of Rougned Odor will always be him punching Jose Bautista in the face, he's also given people reason for excitement thanks to his play on the field of late. Odor is now up to 14 home runs and his wRC+ sits at an impressive 123.

The issue is that he is facing Masahiro Tanaka. And even though Tanaka is a right-handed pitcher, his splitter makes him better against left-handed batters -- like Odor -- than right-handed batters.

In his career, Tanaka has held left-handed batters to a .290 wOBA. This includes a 23.4% strikeout rate, 4.5% walk rate, and 27.9% fly-ball rate. Despite the big power Odor has shown us of late, both with his bat and his right-hand hook, he could struggle against a pitcher that misses bats and keeps the ball on the ground as well as Tanaka does. At the elevated price tag, it's not worth taking on that risk.
