On a 15-game slate with Coors Field involved, the Kansas City Royals are exactly the type of team you gloss over, regardless of matchup. But what happens when the, well, stoppable force meets the movable object?
The Royals get ignored for a reason, but tonight they face a low-strikeout hurler in Aaron Slegers. Dating back to last season, Slegers has made only four career starts, and the results have been a lackluster. He's got a 5.17 SIERA and 13.0% strikeout rate, while allowing a 45.9% hard-hit rate. He's posted a reasonable 3.55 ERA across 14 Triple-A starts this season, but a 4.69 FIP and 16.1% strikeout rate further suggest there isn't much to fear.
A Royals stack is always a dicey proposition, but at the very least, you can consider using their best bat, Mike Moustakas. Moustakas is putting up his usual power numbers against right-handed pitching, producing a 47.3% hard-hit rate, 49.2% fly-ball rate, and .244 isolated power (ISO). Moustakas and Royals are inexpensive across the board, so you can be contrarian while still pairing them with your favorite chalk bats.
