Looking at Alex Cobb's post-surgery numbers as a whole, he he has allowed a 35.0% hard-hit rate to left-handed bats, which has translated to a .353 wOBA and 4.65 xFIP. That's a sample of slightly more than 100 innings, which is more than enough to be confident that his struggles are no fluke.

Jay Bruce is making solid contact against righties this year, with a 34.6% hard-hit and 41.3% fly-ball rate, but production hasn't followed.

Only 7.0% of the fly balls he has hit against righties have turned into home runs this season, and that means he's got a good shot of turning his production around -- at least as far as power goes. Over his career, he has a 17.3% home-run-per-fly-ball rate against righties, and he has rates of at least 20% in each of the last two seasons. His contact numbers are down slightly this year, but they're still solid and not down by nearly enough to account for that lack of home run production.

With Cobb's struggles, Bruce quietly offers very strong upside relative to his price-tag.
