Jonathan Villar, 2B, Milwaukee Brewers

Preseason ADP: 21.35

Here's a pop quiz for you: Which second base-eligible player got selected before everyone else at the position outside of Jose Altuve? Jonathan Villar of the Milwaukee Brewers, that's who.

The 2016 season was easily a breakout campaign for Villar, as he combined surprising power (19 homers) with less-surprising speed (62 stolen bases) for an overall productive campaign (119 wRC+ and .826 OPS). Despite not having much of a track record of success in the majors, his power/speed combo proved too tempting to pass up.

Villar still managed to hit 11 homers in 436 plate appearances, but stole just 23 bases en route to posting a .665 OPS and 71 wRC+. Most of his batted-ball profile didn't change a ton from 2016 to 2017, and while his hard-hit rate dropped only slightly (35.1% to 33.2%), his soft-hit rate saw a more dramatic increase (20.5% to 27.0%).

When you generate a lot of ground balls like Villar does (57.4% in 2017), that decrease in quality of contact doesn't help when it comes to getting on base and giving yourself a chance to steal bases. That wasn't the only thing that contributed to a .293 on-base percentage, though -- he also took a step back in plate discipline.

Both Villiar's chase rate (29.5%) and swinging-strike rate (13.7%) saw significant rises compared to last year, which led to his strikeout rate ballooning to 30.3%, while his walk rate was nearly slashed in half to 6.9%.
