Boston Red Sox lefty Drew Pomeranz has been giving up some loud contact in recent games, allowing the sixth-highest average exit velocity among the 243 players that have thrown at least 150 pitches in September.

He also has a very middling 4.11 xFIP against right-handed bats, which makes this a promising spot for Justin Smoak.

The switch-hitting Smoak has done his best work against left-handed hurlers with an elite .433 wOBA and .252 ISO on a 37.4% hard-hit rate. He has been making especially good contact recently, ranking among the top 10 in average batted-ball distance (min. 10 batted balls) over the past 15 days.
