Jeff Samardzija, P, San Francisco Giants

$8,900 isn't quite the usual "stud" territory, but we only have one pitcher above $9,000 tonight (Carlos Martinez, whose matchup with the Cincinnati Reds isn't especially inspiring), and that leaves Jeff Samardzija as the top option among the more expensive pitchers.

While it hasn't been reflected in his ERA (4.63) and he's coming off a poor fantasy outing in his last start, Samardzija has posted some serious stud numbers with a 2.98 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA), a 28.3% strikeout rate and a 3.7% walk rate, while forcing a 22.7% soft-hit rate to opposing hitters through 11 games this season.

He brings those elite peripherals into a plus fantasy matchup tonight, taking on the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers are certainly dangerous against right-handed pitching, with a top-10 hard-hit rate and top-10 isolated slugging (ISO), but they also rank only 17th in wRC+, while their 24.8% strikeout rate is tied for the third-highest in the majors, making the matchup a high-upside one for Samardzija.
