Laurel Park Horse Racing Picks for Monday 6/1/20

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 12:40 p.m. EST, we have 10 races at Laurel Park. Using our projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.

Samui Sunset, Race 1

FD Odds: 6/1

Right off the bat we note that the favorite Causforcelbration (1-1) is 0-for-21 in his career. He just missed as the even money favorite in his last race on March 15th at Tampa Bay, though he did post a career-best Equibase Speed Figure of 88. Still, no interest at this price even against a poor group. Fused (6/5) will be the post time favorite if he can draw in from the also eligible list in this 12 horse field going 1 1/16 miles on the turf. Finding the best of the worst is not a desired racing strategy, but this field opens the door for a first timer to emerge and Samui Sunset (6/1) can with first time Lasix and the early meet leading rider Jevian Toledo going for his 5th win in 10 starts.

Welling, Race 7

FD Racing Odds: 3/1

An unproven field of 13 for this Maiden Special Weight to kick off the Pick 4. Bold Quest (6/1) has some value in this 1 1/16 mile race with Toledo riding again. He failed to hit the board in his February debut, but improvement expected for this higher-priced colt. But Welling (3/1) is by Curlin and the preferred pick pressing the pace. He posted a best of this field 88 Equibase number two races ago, finishing second, and then crossed the finish line first as the 3/5 favorite in March only to be disqualified for bumping in the deep stretch. Easy to find. Champagne Diet (3/1) is the top pick by Timeform and is working very well off the layoff after posting a pair of mid 80’s Equibase Speed Figures and finishing third in those races at the Fair Grounds.

Keeper in Spite, Race 10

FD Racing Odds: 5/2

The final race of the day is for fillies and mares going 6 furlongs, and Keeper in Spite (5/2) showed good early speed in her three races here earlier this year but was unable to hold up down the lane. She will go to the front and looks like she’s better able against this group, having been among the favorites in recent races. Perez keeps the mount and Timeform has projected Keeper in Spite to the winners circle. Tapping My Heart (10/1) has been off since last summer, but a best 5 furlong bullet work two weeks ago has her ready for her 2020 debut against a sub-par group. Khalos Vision (3/1) will take the money and close as the favorite if she draws in from the also eligible list.
