drafting TE'S???
i know that it depends on who's on the board but GENERALLY speaking what round do you draft your TE??

I have been drafting in the 8th round usually getting Bennett although one draft i got J.Thomas but another draft Ertz was left (along with D.walker)

so I'm curious what round do you guys/gals draft your TE?

I make it a point to only draft TE's when I know I'm getting good value. Reaching for a TE can be as much of a waste as reaching for a kicker or defense. This year, in a 10 team standard scoring league, I don't think Gronk is a 1st round pick (wow, everyone forgot about his injury history pretty quickly!). I don't think Graham should go anywhere before the 3rd round (I'd personally wait until the 4th, but that will likely never happen). I like Olsen and Kelce as 7th-8th round picks, but only if you're not passing up at players who you know have better upside at that point (Olsen is basically just a nice security blanket, and the metrics that people are raving about over Kelce seem unsustainable to me, namely his completion percentage).

My prediction is that I'm never going to to get any of these guys, because I pretty much value them a full round lower than their ADP's. Frankly, I'm OK with that...TE is one of the easiest positions to make up replacement value week over week, in my opinion. I've had seasons where I've streamed more TE's than D/ST's. It's ugly, but it can work if you get it right. The guys that you mentioned getting, Thomas, Ertz, Walker, and Bennett...I firmly believe that they are all in the large "pool" of other TE's that drop off after the Olsen/Kelce tier. People are probably going to hang on to Thomas a little tighter, because they'll think he's going to produce like in Denver, but Ertz, Walker and Bennett should all be good go-to options that you can snag when you know you're drafting them appropriate to their value. Just remember that most of these kinds of TEs are not going to be your season-long go-to option, so just be ready to adjust accordingly.

If the top-tier guys (this year that list probably only includes Gronk) aren't available at a position I feel comfortable taking them, then I usually wait until very late. Last year in a standard 10-team league, I actually went DEF\TE\K in my last 3 rounds and ended up alright there.

kacee: since you picked TE 13th round who'd you get if i may ask?

Antonio Gates. Everyone was drafting the next big thing (Cameron, Reed, Kelce, Ertz, even Ladarius Green) while Gates slipped through the cracks. Since I went late on QB too to get Philip Rivers, I had some better than expected weeks (especially early in the season).

I generally finish out my draft TE/QB/DEF/K. There are always plenty of options at tight end late in drafts, and streaming is a viable option, especially in 10-team leagues without a TE flex. I'm high on Tyler Eifert this year (I was last year, too).

I'll actually have an article on how to value tight ends, according to our algorithms, out on Thursday. But you can use our free draft kit to apply settings specific to your league and see a player's FireFactor score. That shows you how to value positions and players relative to the other positions. Tight ends are always the least valuable, given the replaceability and low point totals.
