Tampa Bay holds on to Andrei Vasilevskiy with three-year deal

The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy to a three-year, $10.5 million contract extension.

What It Means:

This deal might mean that goalie Ben Bishop is on his way out of Tampa, since the Lightning view Vasilevskiy as their netminder of the future. Vasilevskiy was excellent in the Eastern Conference Finals, posting a .923 save percentage against the Pittsburgh Penguins in a tough, seven-game series that the Penguins won. If Bishop remains on the roster, he and Vasilevskiy will likely share the cage next season. If the Lightning move Bishop, Vasilevskiy could reach 60 starts.

Vasilevskiy played in just 24 regular season games and was unimpressive, posting a .910 save percentage and a 2.76 goals against average. However, his playoff performance showed what he's capable of. He'll be just 22 years-old when next season starts.
