Steven Stamkos to sign eight-year, $68 million deal with Lightning
Tampa Bay Lightning center Steven Stamkos, an impending free agent, has reportedly decided to stay with the Lightning.
What It Means:
This puts a damper on what was expected to be a big bidding war for Stamkos' services once free agency officially opened on July 1.
Stamkos tallied 36 goals and 64 points in 77 games last season. Still just 26, Stamkos has 562 points (312 goals and 250 helpers) in 569 games. He would have generated a ton of interest on the open market, but Tampa Bay kept its star.
