Trade rumors have swirled around Malkin recently, specifically around the idea of him going to Chicago. However, Rutherford added that no club has asked about Malkin's availability though. Considering they just won the Stanley Cup, it appears unlikely that Pittsburgh would move Malkin, even though clearing his $9.5 million annual cap hit off of their books might do them some good, since Malkin will be 30 years-old in July and has an extensive injury history.

Malkin played in just 57 games this season, but was productive when on the ice, tallying 58 points (27 goals, 31 assists). He was also excellent at driving possession, as his Corsi For Percentage was 55.1 and his Relative Corsi For Percentage at Even Strength was 4.7. Malkin was also solid in the playoffs, totaling 18 points in 23 games.
