David Backes

Blues would like to re-sign David Backes

St. Louis Blues center David Backes, who is headed for free agency, is a priority for St. Louis general manager Doug Armstrong, but he isn't sure what will happen.

What It Means:

"I thought this year for sure, the NHL got faster. It just seemed like I came to the rink one day and it was fast, and it seemed to get quicker and quicker. So I think it's trending into a younger-leg game," said Armstrong. "I think David's got a lot of good years left in him, I'd love to keep him here, but it has to work out for David and his family first and foremost, and then it has to work into our math equation. But he's a priority."

Backes, 32, had 21 goals and 24 assists this regular season. He owned a 51.1 Corsi For Percentage and -1.9 Relative Corsi For Percentage at Even Strength, both of which were below his career average.
