Arizona names John Chayka as new General Manager
The Arizona Coyotes have named John Chayka as their new general manager as part of a major restructuring of their front office.
What It Means:
Chayka previously served as the team's assistant general manager. He's just 26 years-old and co-founded the hockey analytics firm Stathletes Inc. before joining the Coyotes organization. Meanwhile Alternate Governor Gary Drummond will become the team's new president of hockey operations. Head coach Dave Tippett will continue to serve as the team's bench boss, but he's adding executive vice president of hockey operations to his title. On top of that, Tippett has inked a five-year extension with Arizona.
The Coyotes posted a -0.55 nERD this season, which ranked 3rd worst, so Chayka has his hands full trying to rebuild his club. He'll have the seventh pick in the upcoming draft to get things started.
