Eric Staal scores first goal as a Ranger

New York Rangers forward Eric Staal scored a goal and added an assist in Sunday's 6-4 loss to the New York Islanders.

What It Means:

Staal collected his first point and goal as a Ranger exactly one week after New York acquired him from the Carolina Hurricanes. Staal set up Oscar Lindberg's goal at the 11:16 mark of the first period. He scored a goal of his own just over two minutes later. The 31-year-old has 11 goals and 35 points in 67 games this season.

While Staal's points are down, his possession numbers are superb, as usual. He owns a 56.9 Corsi For Percentage and 6.9 Relative Corsi For Percentage at Even Strength. Both clips are down from last season's numbers but still well above his career averages. We project Staal to record four more goals and six more assists over the final 14 games.
