NHL suspends Flames' Dennis Wideman indefinitely

Calgary Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman has been suspended indefinitely by the NHL.

What It Means:

Wideman is being punished for knocking linesman Don Henderson to the ice during Wednesday's game. The Flames' defenseman argued the collision was unintentional, but if the NHL believes the hit was deliberate, then Wideman would be subject to an automatic 20-game suspension under Rule 40.3. He'll have a hearing after the All-Star Game.

In 48 games, Wideman has recorded two goals and 17 assists. Our rest-of-season projections have Wideman scoring three more goals with 12 more assists, but those numbers will take a hit if he misses significant time. His -4.3 Relative Corsi For Percentage at Even Strength is the worst mark of his career while his 46.3 Corsi For Percentage is the second-worst clip of his career.
