Washington's Michael Latta tallies two points in 2-1 win

Washington Capitals defenseman Michael Latta, a former high-scoring junior who plays only occasionally with Washington and has been used primarily in a defensive role, contributed a goal and an assist in the Capitals' 2-1 triumph over the visiting Ottawa Senators Wednesday night.

What It Means:

Latta, replacing Stanislav Galiev in the Washington lineup to help the Capitals handle Ottawa offensive stars such as defenseman Erik Karlsson, opened the scoring at 14:06 of the first period to give Washington a 1-0 lead. At 5:43 of the second period, he assisted on John Carlson's game-winning goal. Carlson, also one of the top offensive-minded defensemen in the NHL, now has six goals on the season.

Latta has two goals and three assists in 19 games. Our rest-of-season projections see him tallying one more goal and four more assists over the rest of the season.
