Lions send DeAndre Levy (hip) to injured reserve

The Detroit Lions placed weak-side linebacker DeAndre Levy on injured reserve with a hip injury, ending his season.

What It Means:

This was a foregone conclusion, as Levy lasted all of 17 snaps in Week 5 before shutting it down again. He suffered a hip injury late in training camp and missed the first four weeks of the season, and will probably need another procedure. Luckily for him, he signed a five-year deal in early-August that contained $20 million guaranteed. Josh Bynes will continue to handle weak-side linebacker duties in Levy's absence.

The Lions defense ranks 29th in the league in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points per play. They were fourth in this metric in 2014.
