Steelers' Ryan Shazier (back) undergoes spinal stabilization surgery
In a team statement, Pittsburgh Steelers Director of Communications Burt Lauten announced that linebacker Ryan Shazier underwent spinal stabilization surgery on Wednesday night.
The procedure was performed by UPMC neurosurgeons and team physicians in order to address Shazier's spinal injury. The Steelers offered no further comment on his status, but, compared to previous reports, it doesn't sound good for the linebacker. His recovery will take months so his 2017 season is over. Hopefully, Shazier can return to health and play football again, if he so wishes.
At 25, Shazier's fourth NFL season will end with 75 tackles, 11 passes defensed, 3 interceptions and 2 fumbles in 12 starts.
