Steelers' Ryan Shazier (back) improving, won't need surgery

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier (back) does not need surgery and "continues to improve," general manager Kevin Colbert said in a statement.

What It Means:

This is encouraging news after Shazier was reportedly diagnosed with a spinal contusion after being carted off the field in Monday night's win over the Cincinnati Bengals. The 25-year-old linebacker is expected to rejoin the team in Pittsburgh on Tuesday. He recorded 2 tackles before exiting in Week 13.

Shazier has 89 tackles (75 solo) with 11 pass deflections, 3 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles in 12 games this season. Entering Week 14, the Steelers are 8th in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points allowed per play.
