A.J. McCarron filing grievance against Bengals, wants to start

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback A.J. McCarron has filed a grievance against the team requesting to become an unrestricted free agent after the season.

What It Means:

McCarron is set to become a restricted free agent, but believes he should have been activated from the non-football injury list in 2014, which would have given him a fourth year of service, and a shot at the open market in March. McCarron is clearly looking for an opportunity to start, which won't happen in Cincinnati. He was nearly dealt to Cleveland on Tuesday, but the deal "accidentally" fell through because the league wasn't notified before the 4 PM Eastern deadline. Honestly, the Browns may have dodged a bullet here, as this issue has been lingering for months and they now could still get him in free agency.

Yet to appear in 2017, the 27-year-old McCarron has played in seven games total while starting three a year ago. In his appearances, he totaled 854 pass yards, 6 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, and a 66.4 percent completion rate on 119 attempts.
