Ryan Mathews

Eagles, Ryan Mathews (neck) could be nearing resolution

The Philadelphia Eagles and Ryan Mathews could be nearing a resolution on the running back's roster status, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Zach Berman.

What It Means:

Mathews arrived in Philadelphia for the first time today, so the two sides are a step closer to reaching a resolution on his murky roster status. The belief is that the Eagles will make sure that he is first medically cleared before deciding whether or not to release the veteran back. All signs point toward a release, with Mathews set to make $5 million, and LeGarrette Blount, Darren Sproles and Wendell Smallwood manning the Philadelphia backfield.

While Mathews ran for 661 yards and 8 touchdowns a year ago, our models project Blount to lead the Eagles' rushing attack with 166 rushes, 681 yards and 4.75 scores. He's currently being drafted as RB24 and is RB36 in our latest preseason rankings.
